Iran Blasts E3 Over UN Sanctions Revival Threat
In a message posted on X, Araghchi asserted that the E3 lacks the “legal, political, and moral standing” necessary to trigger clauses within the 2015 nuclear deal or UNSC Resolution 2231 that allow for the reimposition of sanctions if Iran is deemed non-compliant.
He highlighted that since the U.S. pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018, Iran has fully utilized dispute resolution processes before responding with countermeasures. Meanwhile, the E3 failed to uphold their commitments and supported the U.S. “maximum pressure” campaign.
“The E3 must refrain from any action that would only deepen divisions in the Security Council or that would have serious adverse consequences on its work,” Araghchi emphasized, adding that Iran remains open to “meaningful diplomacy” but will firmly oppose hostile acts.
Earlier reports indicated that Iran and the E3 have reached a consensus to restart talks on Tehran’s nuclear program.
A local news agency, citing an unnamed “informed source,” reported that consultations are underway between Iran and the E3 regarding the timing and location of these negotiations, expected to involve deputy foreign ministers.
