Iranian border guards Kill at least ten Afghan nationals

(MENAFN) Afghan authorities reported that at least ten Afghan citizens were killed by Iranian border guards, with two additional individuals still unaccounted for.

Mohammad Nasim Badri, spokesperson for the Farah security command in western Farah province, said: “10 residents of this province were shot and killed by Iranian border guards last night (Monday) while attempting to cross into Iran illegally,” according to local reports.

Badri explained that the young men “had entered Iranian territory illegally through the Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi Port border point in search of work.”

He also noted that two other individuals remain missing following the incident, and that an investigation has been launched.

No immediate comment was available from Iranian authorities regarding the situation.

Reports indicate that over the past year, Iran has deported hundreds of Afghan refugees back to the conflict-affected country.
