Iran Claims Drone Interception and Strike on US Naval Forces
According to an IRGC statement, the action was undertaken in response to recent US military strikes that reportedly hit locations in Jask, Sirik and Qeshm in southern Iran.
The statement alleged that the American attacks caused damage to civilian infrastructure, including a telecommunications tower in Sirik and two water storage tanks located in the city’s Bamani district.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said its naval forces launched the drone operation against the US Fifth Fleet at approximately 2:30 a.m. local time.
“The clashes are ongoing,” the statement said.
The IRGC also warned that further escalation could trigger stronger retaliatory measures, stating that “heavier responses” would follow if attacks continue.
The announcement came only hours after US Central Command (CENTCOM) declared that it had completed what it described as “self-defense” operations against Iran.
According to the US military, fighter aircraft targeted Iranian radar installations and air defense systems near the Strait of Hormuz. Officials said the strikes were conducted in response to an earlier incident involving the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter.
