Iran’s Supreme Leader Urges Unity
In a message commemorating the 37th anniversary of the death of former Supreme Leader Ruhollah Khomeini, Khamenei emphasized the need for solidarity among the public and government officials, according to a news agency.
“The enemy is waging a hybrid war against the country comprising both military and psychological warfare,” he said, without directly naming the US or Israel. He added, “The enemy has been defeated militarily and is now trying to reverse course by sowing differences and division among the Iranian nation to achieve its sinister goals.”
Khamenei underscored that unity between the Iranian people and state institutions was crucial “to thwart the enemy’s plots.”
This week, tensions escalated as the US and Iran exchanged some of their fiercest hostilities since their ceasefire began in early April. Iran launched missiles and drones targeting US military bases across the region as well as Kuwait International Airport, resulting in one death.
The confrontation follows airstrikes carried out by the US and Israel in late February, which killed more than 3,000 people in Iran. In retaliation, Tehran has struck Israel and Gulf nations hosting US bases, while also closing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global shipping.
