Starmer Backs US Efforts to End Iran Conflict in Call with Trump

(MENAFN) British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a telephone call with US President Donald Trump on Saturday, expressing support for Washington’s efforts to bring an end to the war involving Iran, according to a statement from the UK government.

During the call, Starmer welcomed what he described as progress in ongoing negotiations and emphasized that any eventual agreement must ensure “a durable and lasting peace.”

He also said the United Kingdom stands ready to assist in implementing any future peace deal, working alongside international partners to support its success.

According to the statement, both leaders agreed on the importance of restoring freedom of navigation in key maritime routes in order to reduce the global economic impact of the conflict. They also pledged to remain in close contact ahead of the upcoming G7 summit in France next week.
