Qatar Mediators Land in Tehran to Push Iran-US Nuclear Talks

(MENAFN) A Qatari diplomatic delegation led by an advisor to the country's foreign minister touched down in Tehran on Sunday, seeking to accelerate ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States, an Iranian semi-official news agency reported.

Another Iranian news agency separately confirmed that the Qatari envoys held talks with Iranian officials "to review the status of the diplomatic process."

No additional details regarding the substance of those discussions were made public.

The diplomatic push comes against a backdrop of sharply heightened regional tensions, which have simmered since US-Israeli strikes on Iran commenced on Feb. 28.

A ceasefire brokered by Pakistan entered into force on April 8, with efforts to forge a broader and more lasting agreement continuing in the weeks since.
