US Lawmaker Criticizes Trump’s Emerging Iran Deal as ‘Net Loss’ for US
According to reports, Trump announced on Saturday that a peace agreement framework would soon be signed and would include provisions such as reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He also suggested that, at a later stage, US forces would be able to access and eliminate Iran’s enriched nuclear material once conditions were stable.
Media accounts further indicated that the proposed deal may involve sanctions relief for Iran and the removal of certain US restrictions, while the Strait of Hormuz would operate without tolls. Iranian officials, however, have stated that no signing is imminent, noting that discussions on the nuclear program are expected to continue.
Speaking on television, Congressman Seth Moulton, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, strongly rejected the agreement’s terms. He said, “This is a terrible deal. It’s basically a surrender document from Donald Trump to the supreme leader of Iran.”
He also questioned the value of the agreement, arguing that it follows substantial US costs and losses. “I mean, $100 billion of taxpayer money already put into this war, 14 Americans dead, and we get a deal that just reopens the strait that was already open before he started the war? How is that a win?” he said.
While acknowledging that ending the conflict would be preferable, he concluded that the outcome represented “lose, lose, lose across the board” for both the United States and the Trump administration.
